About the Team:

The Accounting team cover all P&L and balance sheet (c5.8bn) for O2 and its subsidiaries as well as capital expenditure. We are responsible for all governance and controls for purchasing and the general ledger as well as completing the monthly accounts and budgeting processes. The current cost and accounting team is currently split into five teams (Capex & Property, Functional costs, Hardware, Joint venture and Commissions and Marketing).

Your role:

You will be part of the Commissions and Marketing team responsible for the accounting and control of O2`s Indirect and Direct partner commissions and the companies marketing spend. Your role will be looking after Dixons Carphone, O2`s largest Indirect channels (c£600m P&L cost a year) and other smaller Mass Retail channels. This entails working closely with the commercial, planning and commissions teams to ensure to provide understanding on the performance of these channels. You will also look after the accounting for our company contractor costs and Marketing co-op funding giving you exposure to other areas of the P&L.


Month end process (five days at the beginning of each month), ensuring that the deadlines are met with a high level of accuracy and understanding
-Producing and presenting the month end packs on WD4 & WD5 to a number of individuals including the Head of Cost & CiC accounting, Financial Controller and Head of Financial Planning.
-Responsibility for continuous improvement and enhancement of the month end accounting models and presentation packs.
-Ensuring that we are compliant with SOX and audit requirements. Making sure controls are in place to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the information we hold and rely upon.
-Responsible for driving improvements from the commissions system (ACE) to reduce the value of monthly true ups and to present confidently that we have correctly accounted for any liabilities and claims.
-Responsible for liaising with the planning teams and ensuring that they have relevant inputs for forecasting and planning and understanding the variances with actuals on a monthly basis.
-Responsible for forming and maintaining relationships with other key business stakeholders including the Commercial finance team.
-Providing monthly commentary to the wider business on the P&L and balance sheet position to help drive decision making
-To drive to continually improve accounting models and reporting, and to ensure the balance sheet position is accurate and supportable.
-Responsible for managing the dual accounting for commissions in first year of implementation of IFRS 15 (2018)
-Manage the accounting for our company contractor costs and Marketing co-op funding

Skills & experience:

-Advanced team-working, interpersonal skills and communication skills; experience in building strong relationships and ability to communicate at all levels of management across the organisation.
-Financial Accounting Rigour including a good understanding of double entry, journals and reconciliations.
-Knowledge of financial modelling and forecasting.
-IT literate with a strong focus on Microsoft Office ability to identify problems and the confidence to recommend solutions without prompting.
-High impact self-starting individual, resourceful and solution-driven. Must be personable, easy to work with and flexible but also be able to act with integrity and trust.
-Experience of operating in a tight control environment as well as managing requests from internal and external auditors.
-Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and prioritise multiple demands
-Ability to manage the expectations of their managers and separate important observations from the detail, by being able to summarise the key messages and trends for senior leadership.
-Ability to partner with and influence other sometimes for senior finance members.

Desirable skills, attributes and experience:

-CIMA/ACCA/ACA Qualified
-Previous experience of SAP BPC/ revenue planning / Management reporting modules
-Ability to interpret new financial accounting standards and their impact on our accounting models.
-Knowledge of O2`s accounting systems in particular Oracle & Microstrategy.
Grade: MPG4
