What advice would you offer to students starting their career paths?
“I would say follow your passion, but it's completely normal to not know what you want to do, and that's fine! Speak to different people to have a feel of different roles and grasp any opportunities to learn outside of your role.”
What advice would you offer to students on finding the right employer?
“This depends on what you're looking for in an employer. It's definitely worth looking at the company's website to scope their company values, check out what people say about them online and reach out to employees on LinkedIn.”
What advice would you offer a student on finding the right sector?
“Do your research and see what interests you the most. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, it may seem daunting, but most people are more than willing to chat about their experiences. Depending on the sector, some people do blog and chat about their careers, so it's worth googling.”
What advice would you give a student on how to prepare for interviews?
"Research the company and read the job description thoroughly and make sure you can answer questions around the requirements. Prepare examples of situations where you have demonstrated initiative and skills. Practice is key, practise your answers beforehand and if you don't have anyone to practise with, you could record a video. As we're all remote now, make sure to look at the camera when you talk. Prepare a few questions to ask the interviewers at the end, for example, it could be about how the team works or what does a typical day look like. Asking questions shows that you're enthusiastic about the role."
